This week the girls started a new Writer's Workshop unit on POETRY! To introduce the unit, we talked about what poetry looks and sounds like. Many of the girls recalled our spoken word poetry assembly from a few weeks ago, and remembered that those poems were very funny. The girls also suggested that poetry can have a rhyme or a rhythm.
We then read two short poems that described a blue jay and a cockatoo. We noticed that these poems used a lot of descriptive words.

The girls then came up with descriptive words and sentences to write a poem about a seashell from our science area. Ms. Drosd did the writing, but the words came straight from the girls!

The next day the girls each picked their own item from the science area nature box and started writing a descriptive poem about their items.
