Mt. Everest and Painted Paper

We started out the week celebrating Title IX with an assembly featuring Megan Delahanty, a woman who has climbed Mt. Everest.  The girls were fascinated to hear about how high Mt. Everest is and how long it actually takes to climb to the summit-- about 2 months!  Ms. Delahanty showed many pictures of both the ascent and descent, proving just how amazing the trek is.

The entire school was also given special t-shirts in honor of Title IX and posed for a picture in it.  The picture will be on the cover of the next issue of Keeping Posted.

In the classroom, we are getting one step closer to creating our Eric Carle insects!  Using all of the colors we created last week, along with other bottled ones, the girls made their painted paper.  In addition to paintbrushes, the girls had access to sponges and wooden rollers to create texture on the paper.  They also used, as Carle does, the end of the paintbrush to add to the design.

Eric Carle would be proud!
