Sisters, Costumes, and Apples, Oh My!

This week, the k'ers met their Big Sisters!  Each girl, or Little Sister, is paired with a fourth grader who is also in their Family group.  Each Family is comprised of a girl from each grade and meets a few times a year for special activities.

For the first meeting, we all came together in the McKinne lounge for snacks and conversation.  The girls had a great time!

On Halloween, we met our entire Hamlin Family and did an activity together and it was fun getting to know girls in the different grades.  We also enjoyed seeing each other's costumes.

Later, the girls painted pumpkins, created a witch's hat, made a mask, and concocted goop.  It was a bit messy, but a lot of fun.

Centers this week focused on apples!  In one center, the girls skip counted by 2s, 5s, and/or 10s and glued the numbers to apples.  It was tricky because the numbers were out of order.  The kindergartners were able to use counting bears to help them with their counting.  They discovered that when you are counting by 2s, each number is even because each bear had a partner.

In another center, the girls recorded patterns by shading in apples.  Each row of apples had a designated pattern: AB, ABC, ABB, AAB, ABBC, ABA and a "make your own."

It certainly was another busy week!  Luckily, we all get an extra hour of sleep this weekend.
