Tadpoles and Math Games

We have some new members of our KPD community!  We welcomed 6 leopard frog tadpoles (three are staying in KDH until our bigger aquarium arrives) to our classroom last week.  After the February break, we will turn our attention from sea animals to frogs.  We learned that tadpoles take months to turn into frogs and so we needed to bring them in earlier than expected.  Needless to say, they are a hit! Girls have even started placing plastic frog around the tank so the tadpoles feel at home.

We also learned some new math games.  The first was a matching game, using numeral cards and 20 frame cards.  The girls had previously learned about 20 frames, and explored teen numbers as ten and some more, helping them become more adept at recognizing numbers represented this way.  The goal of this memory game was to make as many matches as possible.

The k'ers also began exploring coin money.  In one game, the girls used a spinner to determine how many pennies they added to their 20 frame.  On the spinner, there were sections with one penny, 2 pennies, 3 pennies, or a nickel.  If they landed on a nickel, they added 5 pennies to their 20 frame.
